Art Retreats in 2027: Painting Retreats in Mallorca

Art Retreats in 2027: Painting Retreats in Mallorca

For an art retreat in 2027, Mallorca Art Retreat runs three small-group painting retreats in Mallorca, Spain: figurative painting with Larry Madrigal (4–10 April), expressive portraiture with Nikolas Antoniou (11–17 April) and Mediterranean seascapes with Edwige Fouvry (31 October – 6 November). Each week hosts 15 painters at Finca Es Cabàs, from €3,400 full board.

If you are planning an art retreat for 2027, the best places book up early. Small-group retreats with a recognised artist often take only a dozen or so painters, and dates are announced a year ahead.

This guide explains what a good art retreat includes, presents the three painting retreats in Mallorca for 2027, and answers the questions painters ask most before booking.

What to look for in an art retreat in 2027

A good art retreat gives you time, teaching and a place that makes you want to paint. Before you book, check five things:

  1. Group size. Under 20 painters means real one-to-one feedback.
  2. The lead artist. Look at their work and teaching experience, not only the location.
  3. What is included. Tuition, accommodation, meals and materials vary widely between retreats.
  4. Level. Make sure beginners and experienced painters are both welcome, if that matters to you.
  5. The setting. Natural light, space to paint outdoors and a calm venue change what you produce.

Figurative painting with Larry Madrigal (April 2027)

Larry Madrigal is a contemporary figurative painter whose narrative work explores the poetry of everyday life. After years of teaching across the Americas, he brings his approach to Europe.

Over five days you work on:

  • colour and light
  • composition and wet-on-wet blending
  • glazing, luminosity and rendering of skin
  • the balance between realism and gestural expression

Intuitive portraiture with Nikolas Antoniou (April 2027)

Nikolas Antoniou paints the raw, expressive life of the human face. His work has been shown in galleries across Europe and the United States, and he has led portrait workshops in Cyprus, Italy, Paris and Barcelona.

His retreat is about intention and experimentation rather than formulas. Daily studio sessions help you let go in front of the canvas and find your own visual language.

Mediterranean seascapes with Edwige Fouvry (November 2027)

Edwige Fouvry is a French-born painter trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. She has spent decades painting the North Sea, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

You paint seascapes along Mallorca’s coast, including a full day at the beach. Daily demonstrations cover light, proportion and colour palettes, from vivid to subtle, with personal guidance throughout.

More 2027 retreats will be announced on 15 November 2026. Join the list on the retreats page to hear first.

What a week at the retreat looks like

Every retreat lasts 7 days and 6 nights, with 5 full days of painting. The rest of the time is built so you have only one thing to do: create.

  1. 09:30–12:30, morning session. A demonstration and guided painting with the guest artist, after an optional silent meditation among the olive trees.
  2. Midday, lunch. Fresh Mediterranean dishes such as tumbet and pa amb oli, served under the bougainvillea pergola.
  3. 14:00–17:00, afternoon session. Painting in the studio or outdoors in the orange grove, with one-to-one feedback.
  4. Evening, aperitif and dinner. A showing of the day’s work, then dinner under the stars with Mallorcan wines.

During the week there is also yoga, a barbecue, a paella night, open studio time and live music. To learn more, see the full experience.

Finca Es Cabàs: where the retreat takes place

All retreats are held at Finca Es Cabàs, a traditional Mallorcan estate among centuries-old olive trees, near the Serra de Tramuntana.

  • Accommodation: 6 nights full board, in a twin shared room (from €3,400) or a private ensuite with terrace (from €4,100). Every room has a private bathroom.
  • Spaces to paint: a bright shared studio with an easel for each painter, shaded terraces and gardens of olive, orange and almond trees.
  • History: the estate’s original stone olive press, the tafona, is now used as a space to show work.
  • To relax: a swimming pool, private gardens and chef-cooked meals with garden produce and local olive oil.

Why choose Mallorca for an art retreat in 2027

Mallorca combines a famous natural light, varied landscapes and easy access from the rest of Europe.

  • The light. Clear and golden, it sculpts the landscape in the morning, warms the stone walls at midday and gives pink and orange sunsets.
  • The subjects. The UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana, olive terraces, coves, cliffs and the Mediterranean are all within reach.
  • The artistic heritage. Joan Miró made Mallorca his home, and the village of Deià has drawn artists and writers for a century.
  • Easy travel. Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) has direct flights from most major European cities, and airport transfers are available on request.

Spring and autumn give the softest light and mild temperatures, which is why the 2027 retreats run in April and November. Our month-by-month guide explains when to paint in Mallorca, and Destination Mallorca presents the island.
